PROPOSED CROSSING

About

This project assignment asked for an intervention on Connecticut College’s campus that would enhance an existing site’s landscape architecture, programatic efficacy, and student-life and safety conditions. This landscape intervention along Route 32 would connect a large percentage of student residential life to the rest of the campus. The redesign of the currently neglected sidewalk would place natural barriers between pedestrian safety and the dangerous road to the direct west, pedestrianize the main crossing into campus, and connect students to green spaces by drawing an emphasis on the campus as an arboretum through highlighting the natural elements to the direct east of the site (Caroline Black Arboretum).
