Residence for a Visiting Professor
Located on one of Connecticut College’s quads, this project targeted the lifestyle of a visiting professor and their family. Considering the challenging site at hand, the location chosen for the house took sunlight, exposure, and relativity to existing buildings into consideration. Inspired by the local metamorphic gneiss used to build surrounding dorms, the house has stone walls of various heights and widths. Each wall functions as an interior and exterior partition, allowing the design to continue outwards into its site. Inspired by reflective patterns of light, the open plan and floor to ceiling east and west-facing windows allow for sunlight to infiltrate openly throughout the day.
